Macromolecular Structures by (Cryo-)Electron Microscopy

With the recent advent of direct electron detectors high-resolution electron microscopy has become feasible for sub-MDa complexes. Depending on the shape of the structure, complexes with as little as 200 kDa have been demonstrated to be amenable to structure determination by electron microscopy, even in the absence of symmetry.

We are always interested in meeting new collaboration partners with interesting samples and projects. As the absolute sample amount necessary for electron microscopy is negligible compared to that required for other structural biology methods, we are able to address complexes that are difficult to purify/synthesize. Our expertise with dynamic complexes also allows us to overcome many types of conformational heterogeneity that can make samples refractory to e.g. crystallization.
